I found a mention that the firmware supplied in this controller was an early Alexmos or maybe a hacked version. So I fired up the current V2.4 Alexmos GUI. It said the firmware was something like V0.53-R4 and I should update. It seems this hardware may only support up to V2.2. Only the current 2.4 HEX and GUI were available for download.
